Places you will visit

Abéné Big Tree (Abéné Bantanworo)

The majestic Abéné Big Tree, an enormous kapok tree that stands as a cultural icon in the heart of the village. This sacred tree, steeped in local folklore, is more than just a natural wonder; it's a symbol of unity and tradition. We’ll spend time here learning about the local ceremonies and stories that make this tree so significant.

Abéné Central Mosque

The central mosque of Abéné, a spiritual hub for the village's Muslim community. This mosque, with its classic Islamic architecture, is a peaceful place of worship and reflection. I'll share with you insights into the religious harmony in this region, where different faiths coexist peacefully.

Abéné Church (Eglise Saint Joseph d'Abene)

Just a short walk away, we’ll explore the St Joseph church of Abéné. The architecture reflects a blend of local and colonial influences, creating a unique and beautiful place of worship. This church is an important gathering spot for the Christian community, and together with the mosque, it highlights the religious diversity of the village.

Abéné Beach

After exploring the spiritual and cultural sites, we head to Abéné Beach. This serene stretch of sand along the Atlantic coast is perfect for relaxation. Whether you want to take a peaceful walk, enjoy the gentle waves, or simply soak in the natural beauty, Abéné Beach offers the ideal setting for a tranquil break.

Kafountine Market and Fishing Village

Our journey continues with a short trip to the lively fishing village of Kafountine. Known for its vibrant marketplace and bustling fishing activities, Kafountine offers a dynamic contrast to the calm of Abéné. You’ll witness the local fishermen bringing in their daily catch and experience the lively atmosphere that makes this village a vital part of the Casamance region. The energy and color of the market are truly something to behold!
